jesus toro martinez
Toro is a native Texan and currently works out of his studio near Salado Creek, where he dedicates much of his time collecting discarded materials to use in his art. Toro received his B.F.A. from the San Antonio Art Institute and M.F.A. from Ravenhurst University in the Netherlands. He has participated in-group art exhibits at The Blue Star Contemporary Arts Museum, San Antonio, Texas, The Museum of Modern Art, Tampere, Finland, Galleria Amores in Mexico City, and MexicArte Museum, Austin Texas. He has exhibited solo at the Museum of the West in Oslo, Norway, the Finland National Academy of Art in Helsinki, Finland, and the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center in Austin, Texas. In 2015, Toro was part of the Jerusalem Bi-Annual art event. His work can also be found in the permanent collections of the University of Texas in San Antonio and the Latino Art Museum at the Pomona Art Colony, Pamona, California as well as at Holy Name of Mary Catholic Church, San Dimas California. Today his work is collected by individuals and institutions
nationally and internationally.
Andy a. villarreal
Andy's background as a North American, a Texan, and a Hispanic male forms his aesthetics. His personal experiences and trips to the East and West coasts, the Southwest, Mexico, Yucatan, and Europe enrich the themes in his work. Mexican culture is a major source of inspiration to him and has become more prominent in his work over the past fifteen years. The intensity of his work derives from his pride and feelings towards his culture. Indigenous cultures are also a driving force in his work. The Indigenous peoples of varying times and places interact in his work. His work crosses cultures and portrays the human condition, the struggles, the harmony, the social injustice, and the celebration of life. Ongoing themes in his work combine history, mythology, and religion, past and present, real and contrived. His work emphasizes these intense social and cultural contents as well as formal and contemporary aesthetic elements and includes various architectures of signs and symbols from ancient civilizations. Viewers are invited to share his cultural experiences and draw their own interpretations.
